Hello Everyone,
I have been a comic book collector for many years and for quite some time I have been very interested in getting a proper storage for them, something that not only will protect them but it will also look nice for my collection.
I made many searches on the web and found very interesting ideas on how to do it yourself, there are also videos in YouTube from people that build ones very similar to what I have seen in some comic book stores and they look amazing.
Looking what all people were doing for their collection I decided to give it a try and build one for myself. So I build my comic book storage and it looks like this:
I'm no handyman at all and never did any woodcraft, I build the storage with no help at all and didn't required too many tools.
The storage is divided in 3 cabinets with 4 drawers each, I did it this way thinking if I ever need to move them would not be that difficult, instead of being just one big unit. They are mounted on a heavy duty shelving unit. I placed the shelf where everything is resting 1 feet above ground. I have my comic books on the basement of our house, as I don’t have any other place with space to put them, so I wanted to leave enough space above ground in case of a water leak. I also re-enforced the legs of the shelving unit and the bottom just in case.
The first two cabinets did I wasn't 100% sure if my measurements so they required a lot of work. The last one I build was easier since I had a better idea of the measures and how to put the pieces together so I went to Home Depot and ask for them to do all the cuts; all I did latter was just put the pieces together.
They are not perfect, a couple of the drawers are too tight to go in and out but I think I did a pretty good job all things considered. lol
I'm outing together this site is to share my experience and my idea of the cabinets with any other comic book aficionado that is interested in building one for their own and hopefully, make it easier to do so.
I said it before, I’m not a woodwork guy and all that you will see here is what worked for me, I’m sure it may not work for everyone but hopefully this will give an idea and something to start with.
Also I had another ?...what size screws did u use on the drawers? The instructions say 6x3/4 flat socket but the jpg pic of the screw box shows a 6x1 1/4 wood screw. Was just wondering which you used. Thanks!
